Hi guys, hope you all have a pleasant holiday. We encounter some problem for the registration of courses for 2nd year 1st sem.
List we must take... PGT203, Hxe209, Het212, Qmt212. Altogether 14 units plus Bsm, st. John and so on 15 units.
Problem is, what course we need to choose for the remaining units?
Suggestions:
1. Choose HTU223-TITAS(2units) and LKM400 (2units)
-Problem: LKM must wait til 6th of july only can register manually in School of Language Learning and Translation (SOLLAT). It is not offered for us this sem.
If still wanting take, then you might need to join with other schools and be seperated. Mind that, if got empty slot only you can join in with other school.
The time and date will be different and it might have some possibilities of tough time in fixing tutorial time for courses which only tesol student takes.
The risk is, NOT all will get lkm. What if some get, some dont? The donts need to take what course? remember Dr. tan said must stick as a group???
If we take next sem then we will take it together and cause less problem in fixing tutorial time for other courses.
2. Choose HTU223-TITAS (2units) and LSP300/LSP401 (2units)
- Problem: The timetable for LSP300 and LSP401 clash with HET212 lecture time. Which is on Thursday 2-4pm. LSP on Tuesday 3-4.50, Thursday 2-2.50pm.
Same with LKM, we dont know whether it is open for our school this sem or not.(for those who wanna check, see only education of arts in the timetable)
Education of arts might be pendidikan khas, pendidikan sastera or tesol students.
- Problem 2: It has different level in taking with other schools. For example, if we take together with bio or chemistry school, they will learn different english terms compare to us.
We might have some problem with that. That is the purpose why they open for different schools, so that it wont have english level problem.
- Problem 3: If some of us get LSP, some dont then what about the donts? What do they take then? Besides, it might have some possibility again in fixing time for tutorial of the courses which only tesol students take.
3.Choose HTU223-TITAS (2units) and some core course which are 3 units, such as: PPG215, PGT202E, PGT342(2units).
- problems: PPG215 is only offered in 1st sem of each year. If possible take continuously with PPG315.
- Problem 2: PGT202E is offered in 1st and 2nd sem of each year. But, if we take it in 2nd year 1st sem, then 2nd year 2nd sem we will dont have this course to take which means a slot for other courses.
which means when 2nd year 2nd sem comes, we need to choose another course to back up. But we can only choose courses which are offered in 2nd sem only. If thats the case means we must find somewhere 3rd year 2nd sem course
to fit in. Which means those courses from 3rd year 2nd sem. Mind that third year course is not so suitable for second year.
- Problem 3: PGT342 starts with a 3 which is meant 3rd level course.
* all can take except for PGT202E only no need to take together with 3rd year seniors. (mind or not, guys?)
4: Choose ownself or walk seperate ways(last resort)
This is the last choice to fit in the remaining 4 to 5 units. Which means we are open to take foreign language or sports to fill up the remainder units. Remember take this at your own risk and it might also cause timetable fixation problem for core and minor courses.
NEXT:
1. QMT212 and Hxe 209 lecture time clash.
QMT 212 will be taught by Dr. Irfan(INU) who is also timbalan of PTPM. We can only change QMT time as HXE will be taken by ELLS, translation and TESOL student. While QMT only taken us.
Remember Dr. Irfan timetable might be full, will might have some problem to fix another lecture time and he wont open two small tutorial class for just 24 students.
Remember also that student who takes LSP and LKM at different time and days will have an effect on fixing the time for this qmt course regardless lecture or tutorial.
*** this problem had gone on for 3 straight years from 4th year, 3rd year and now we our turn.
ALL in all, the possibilities of fixation problem for courses only taken by TESOL students might cause abit headache. Feel free to give any suggestions.
Wish to hear from everyone and vote for the best solution. If we come back on 2nd - 6th july, it will cause some problem for our sarawak coursemates who already bought ticket just to discuss this matter.
So it is better if we fix a date and come out with a solution before the sem starts. Erm, the due date for all to come out with a suggestion or solution is on the 26 of june(two weeks from today)

In my opinion,I think that we should just stick to the courses that are listed in the previous post(by karen).Then we will not be having problems like listed above.Agree?=)

ya, totally agree, we should just stick to the courses as suggested by karen.
I am a PBSM member and currently my units filled up to 18units(shown on the e-daftar),it is difficult for us to take the 3units' subject, coz we will need to get the approval from the DEAN (remember the 21units' rule - and maybe some of you are lazy to go for the DEAN, at least i am).
As for LSP and LKM, i think it is fine for us to wait until next sem la, since the level and timetable are not the same, plus i do mind having the same course together with some weirdoes from the other schools.
So now i got 18 units, i do have the intention of taking course that i like, like japanese (2 units nia)...but i will see the other tesol ginna's decisions and fit with you all lar, coz i love you all mah~~~
Karen here. I think that we should stick to the original courses which i've posted. Any problems, we'll discuss on the 6th of July. Since that as Noel told me before, we actually have a duration of one week after our new semester starts to make changes of our courses. After that, we will be charged for any changes in the registration of courses.
hmm but i tot tis coming sem, the ko-k units are not counted in academic units?
meaning u'll have the advantage of taking 20units of academic course
anyway, if ko-k units isn't counted in, means tat its only 16units, taking 16units is.. hmm... kind of waste? i assume noel post this according to tis assumption?
yeah thr is an option of taking foreign language to fill until 18units tho...

The Ko-k does not have any units. The reason I wrote this post is that 16 units are too few. lkm n lsp cases can be avoided for now if u wan, wad if next sem they din offer again?

i checked the timetable. it doesn't clash with any of lectures..

fyi, i already took LSP401 in 1st year, 1st sem..
even if i wait for all of u, none of u will register for this class..
u all are already good in English..
